Bengaluru: The power utility said prepaid smart meters will be rolled out first for government buildings and then for residential consumers.
Officials said the decision follows months of consultation with elected representatives, resident welfare associations and technical experts, and that detailed timelines will be published on the government's website.
Residents in Bengaluru have long raised concerns about uneven service delivery, especially in newly developed areas on the city's periphery. The new plan prioritises those areas in its first phase.
What happens next
We have tried to design this in a way that the benefits are visible within the first year, and not just at the end of the project, a senior official involved in the planning said.
