Belagavi: Traders estimate more than 200 trucks a day are leaving the region's powerloom clusters for wholesale hubs across the country.

Officials said the decision follows months of consultation with elected representatives, resident welfare associations and technical experts, and that detailed timelines will be published on the government's website.

Residents in Belagavi have long raised concerns about uneven service delivery, especially in newly developed areas on the city's periphery. The new plan prioritises those areas in its first phase.

What happens next

Opposition members welcomed the move but sought a third-party audit of the work and quarterly progress reports. The administration said both suggestions would be considered.
